Vietnamese First Division
The Vietnamese First Division is the second tier league in Vietnamese football, after the V-League, with 14 teams competing.
Format
The league comprises 14 teams. Over the course of a season, each team plays twice against the others in the league, once at 'home' and once 'away', resulting in each team competing in 26 games in total. Three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss. The teams are ranked in the league table by points gained, then goal difference and then goals scored.
At the end of the season, the top two teams are promoted to the V-League and the bottom two teams are relegated to the Vietnam Second Division. The club in third place team from the First Division will play a playoff against the third lowest team in the V-League. If the V-League club loses, the club will be relegated to the First Division and the winning First Division team will be promoted to the V-League.
The two or three, depending on the playoff, promoted teams are replaced in the division for the next season by the teams finishing in the bottom two or three in the V-League and the relegated teams are replaced by the two teams finishing at the top of the Vietnamese Second Division.
